A criticism that I often hear is that we soldiers should not occupy hospitals, schools or similar buildings, as this attracts Russian fire. Let me explain how things work...

On the front line, the buildings are abandoned. There is no difference between a school, an apartment block and a hospital. They are just abandoned buildings that no longer fulfill any function. We must therefore occupy them according to our military needs. If for example we occupy houses and refuse to occupy a concrete hospital, it could mean the difference between life and death. The hospital is probably a sturdy old Soviet building made of concrete that resists shelling. Houses, on the contrary, are small, fragile buildings that are destroyed and catch fire after a few minutes of an artillery barrage. In addition, occupying a building allows you to cover certain roads or protect other buildings occupied by our comrades.

Behind the front line, things are different. We then do not occupy hospitals and schools, because these buildings are still in use. The Russians know this. There is then no good military reason to bomb these places.
